James D. Robinson III co-founded RRE Ventures in 1994 with James D. Robinson IV and Stuart Ellman after a long operating career that included serving as chairman and CEO of American Express from 1977 to 1993. RRE later described him as a Special Limited Partner, and public profiles note he served on boards of private portfolio companies including Avant, CoverHound, Fast Performance, and NerdWallet. He died in March 2024.
