Shawn Carolan

Shawn Carolan is a Partner at Menlo Ventures with focus areas in AI, consumer, fintech, and robotics plus hardware. Menlo describes him as an early-stage investor focused on companies serving the utilitarian consumer and says that his approach led him to invest early in Roku, Uber, and Chime. His technical background includes bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, software development and architecture experience at Open Port Technology, and a Stanford GSB MBA. He also had his own founder journey with Handle, which Menlo says informs his understanding of company-building challenges.
